Character Name: Steve Rogers
Series: MCU
Timeline: post Civil War pre Infinity War- somewhere in those two years
Canon Resource Link: Captain America Wiki

Character History:

Steve Rogers was born on July 4, 1918 to Sarah and Jospeh Rogers. Joseph was killed in action during world war 1 before he was ever able to meet his son. Steve was raised by his mother, a nurse. He was a sickly child, to the point where everyone was surprised he even made it to adulthood.

He meets his best friend, Bucky, at a young age and the two become inseparable. Bucky usually pulling him out of fights. Steve doesn’t like bullies and even if he’s 100lbs soaking wet he will stand up to people twice or three times his size if they are hurting other people.

His mother died when he was 18, and Bucky offered him a place to stay, but Steve was adamant he could do it in his own (because Steve is stubborn), but Bucky told him he didn’t have to.

I’m with you, till the end of the line.

Once the US entered World War 2, Steve was determined to serve, but because of all his health ailments he was denied entrance to the army. But he kept trying, going to different recruitment centers and falsifying his papers. But he was continually stamped an 4F. But Steve is stubborn and will do anything he can when he puts his mind to it.

Bucky joins up and is set to ship out with the 107th. They spend his last night at the Stark Expo, and Steve leaves Bucky and their dates to go attempt one more time to enlist. He wishes Bucky well and tells him to be safe after they exchange a few heated words- Bucky just wants Steve to be safe and stop trying because he’s going to get caught.

Unbeknownst to Steve a German scientist is watching them, Abraham Erskine. He pulls Steve’s records and all the times he’s tried to enlist and he sees a determination in him. He confronts Steve and asks him if he wants to kill Nazis. Steve says he doesn’t want to kill anyone, but he hates bullies.

Impressed by this answer and all of Steve's continued efforts to enlist, Erskine decides to enlist Rogers as a candidate of Project Rebirth, a secret "super-soldier" experiment which was being conducted by the Strategic Scientific Reserve, telling him that this would be his chance to join the war effort in World War II, which Steve had then enthusiastically accepted, delighted to be given the opportunity to serve.

Steve is shipped off to camp Lehigh. This is where he meets Peggy Carter. He’s impressed with her immediately, smirking when she punches one of the other cadets for mouthing off to her because she’s a woman. Colonel Phillips then shows up and gives them a speech about making the best army in the world and looks down on Steve because he’s obviously not up to par physically to be there.

But Steve is determined as ever. He works hard during training, even as he struggles he never gives up. Even when the other cadets bully him, he keeps pushing forward to prove to everyone that he can do it. Perhaps one of his defining moments is when Phillips throws a grenade into the middle of their training. While everyone else runs to take cover Steve throws himself on top of it, trying to protect everyone by taking the blast. He’s lucky it was a dead grenade or that’s where his story would have ended. But his willingness to sacrifice himself to save others is why he’s picked as the first test subject for project rebirth.

The night before the procedure Erskine comes to visit Steve to check in and make sure he was alright. Steve asks him why he chose him out of everyone. Erskine explains to him that he had originally been recruited by Hitler to make the perfect solider and the first serum had been used on a soldier named Johann Schmidt. But because he was a power hungry evil man it had warped him. That it had just heightened all those bad qualities. But he chose Steve because he was weak and had never known power. A little guy who hated bullies and had a strong moral compass, the serum would just enhance everything good in Steve.

Whatever happens tomorrow you must promise me one thing. That you will stay who you are. Not a perfect soldier, but a good man.

Steve is escorted to the facility for his procedure by Peggy Carter. On their way they drive through Brooklyn and Steve points out places he was beat up.

Did you have something against running away?"
"You start running they'll never let you stop. You stand up, push back... Can't say no forever right?

The two bond over knowing what it feels like to be constantly looked over and having to prove themselves. Peggy is charmed by him even if he doesn’t know how to talk to women.

They enter a basement of a Brooklyn building where the procedure will take place. Steve meets Howard Stark for the first time who has been working with Erskine on how to get the serum to work- vitarays. The procedure obviously works and Steve emerges from the pod a different man, the peak of human perfection. Erskine has just a few moments to see his work become a reality before a Hydra spy blows up part of the viewing room before shooting Erskine and killing him.

Steve goes after the spy, his new physical abilities making him able to keep up with a speeding car. He manages to catch him but he breaks a vital of cyanide in his mouth saying Hail Hydra before he dies.

The experiment is a success but Erskine is death and with his death goes the serum- he never wrote the formula down for fear of it being stolen. Steve is the only super solider they were able to get. The SSR doesn’t want him but the government does. They use him to sell war bonds, calling him Captain America and sending him all over the country to stand up in front of audiences to preform. He hated it- but it did give him a confidence he previously never had, one that will serve him well later.

He ends up over seas in Italy preforming for the troops that boo him and don’t care. He’s discontent with the path his life is taking- seeing himself as a dancing monkey. That all changes when Peggy finds him. She tells him that he was meant for more than what he was doing. And she tells him that he was performing for what was left of the 107th. Steve realizes that it was Bucky’s unit and that they had recently been hit by Hydra and more than half are missing or dead.

Determined to find out what happened to Bucky and with Colonel Phillips being no help he decides to go behind enemy lines to infiltrate Hydra himself. Peggy, knowing if anyone could do it he could, and that nothing was going to stop him she enlists Howard Stark to fly them over Nazi airspace so Steve could parachute in.

He manages to find the base, infiltrate it, release all the pows, find Bucky in a room where he is clearly being experimented in, get a look at the map that has all the Hydra bases on it, and get everyone out. But not before having his first confrontation with Johann Schmit, the Red Skull.

Steve and the rescued pows make their way back to the allies camp, with some hydra tech and Steve finally proves that they need him to win this war.

The SSR enlists Steve and his handpicked team, The Howling Commandos, to infiltrate and take down all of the hydra bases and stop Schmidt. At this point the SSR is more worried about Hydra than Hitler. It’s at this point while working with Howard Stark that Steve gets his iconic shield. Over the next three years the team takes out all the Hydra bases Steve had seen on the map, except the main one, which they haven’t been able to find. Intel tells them that Armin Zola, Schmidt’s right hand man is on a train. The Commandos need to get on the train and take Zola. Steve and Bucky go to secure the train while Gabe Jones goes searching for Zola. Steve and Bucky encounter Hydra goons and in the course of the fight Bucky is thrown from the train with only a blown out door to hang onto. Steve quickly takes out the Hydra troops and immediately goes to save Bucky. But he can’t reach him and he’s too late, Steve has to watch Bucky fall from the train to his death.

The mission is however successful and they succeed in capturing Zola, who then tells them to location of the main hydra base in exchange for protection.

Peggy finds Steve at a bomber out pub, one they had been celebrating at when they formed the Commandos, he’s drinking and mourning his friend. He tells her that he can no longer get drunk and Peggy says that Erskine thought that might be a side effect, his body burns up the alcohol too quickly. She comforts him, telling him that Bucky chose to follow Steve and that Steve should respect that choice. He died bravely doing something he believed in.

Now that they know the location of the last base the team forms a plan to take Schmidt down. They charge the base going right in the front door, and Steve meets Schmidt again, but the base is under attack and Schmidt gets away, heading to his plane, which is filled with bombs- he plans to take out the entire eastern seaboard of the US.

Steve is in pursuit and Phillips and Peggy come to his aid in Schmidt’s car, getting him close enough to the plane for him to jump. Right before he can Peggy pulls him back and kisses him for luck- it’s their first and their last kiss.

Steve gets on the plane, stopping the bomber planes from taking off before confronting Schmidt. They fight, but then Schmidt picks up the source of his power- the hydra weapons power. The Tesseract. (Being an infinity stone) it consumes him and Steve is left alone with a plan that’s course is set for New York. The controls are broken and he calls for help getting Peggy on the radio. She begs him to let her get Howard and he can help but Steve knows there’s no time. The plane is moving too fast and at that moment it’s over the arctic which is barren. He needs to put it down to save millions. Peggy stays on the radio with him, telling him she expects him next Saturday at the Stork Club so she can teach him to dance. That’s the last thing she says to him before he hits the water, the plane sinking and Steve presumably dying.

The war ends, won by the allies, Hydra is taken out, and Captain America is immortalized as a beacon of hope.

Howard Stark continues to search the Atlantic for the plane and Steve, determined to bring his friend home for a proper burial. While searching he finds the Tesseract and brings it home. As one of the founders of Shield, the Tesseract winds up in their hands.

It’s not until 68 years later that a plane is uncovered in the arctic, the hydra plane with Steve inside. Frozen, but still alive from the serum. Shield brings him back and he wakes up in a bad rendition of a 1940s hospital room, a Brooklyn Dodgers game on the radio. He knows immediately that something is wrong because he was at the game that’s playing. He breaks out of the facility and finds himself in modern day New York City- talk about culture shock. He is stopped by Nick Fury who explains (badly) what happened. That Steve missed the last 68 years and basically everyone he knew is dead.

Shield sets him up in a safe house to help him get acclimated to this new world he found himself in. They give him everything he needs including files on his old friends and coworkers. Finally they set him up in an apartment. Steve finds Peggy’s file and sees she’s alive but he’s hesitant to contact her- she’s rightfully moved on with her life and he didn’t want to face that or hurt her.

Eventually Shield calls him in. Fury comes to him with an assignment, the Tesseract has been taken by Loki and since Steve was familiar with it they need his help. He agrees, thankful to have something to do but still angry at the world currently. The sacrifice himself for the world and he’s not so sure this world is an improvement. He’s lost and alone and he’s unsure of what he’s supposed to do.

He gets to shield and meets Agent Coulson, one of the men who found him and who helped design his new uniform. Coulson is Fury’s right hand. He mentions he has Captain America trading cards in mint condition and if Steve wouldn’t mind could he sign them. Steve is slightly uncomfortable but agrees cuz he’s Steve. They bring him to the hellicarrier where he meets Natasha Romanov, Black Widow, and Bruce Banner, The Hulk. They get a trace on Loki in Germany and Natasha and Steve head out to apprehend him. He fights Loki who had apparently been waiting for him and Natasha remarks that his fighting is all over the place, likely because he’s had no formal training. Iron man, Tony Stark, Howard’s son, shows up and helps take down Loki.

Tony and Steve get off on the wrong foot, mostly because Steve is angry and Tony is...Tony and likes to push people’s buttons. While transporting Loki to shield he is taken by his brother Thor. Steve and Tony go after him and they get into a fight until Thor hits Steve’s shield with his hammer and levels the forest they are in. Steve asks if they are done and all three with Loki head back to the hellicarrier.

Now that they have Loki in confinement they have his scepter. Bruce and Tony work to find the Tesseract while secretly Tony hacks shield because he doesn’t trust them. Natasha goes to subtly interrogate Loki and Steve checks on the science boys getting into an argument with Tony. Tony and Bruce agree that shield is hiding something and Steve not wanting to wait for Tony’s computer goes investigating. He finds shield using the Tesseract to make weapons and goes back to tell Tony and Bruce to find tony confronting fury about it, fury denies it until Steve puts the weapon on the table. This starts an argument between everyone, unbeknownst to them the scepter is influencing them and feeding their anger. Tony and Steve go at him, Steve taking his anger out on Tony and saying things he normally wouldn’t. The group is so preoccupied with arguing they miss that they are being infiltrated until one of the carrier’s engines blows up.

Tony and Steve head out to fix the engines, while chaos ensues aboard the ship. Steve fights off some bad guys while Tony manual restarts the engines, and manages to pull the lever to stop Tony from being shredded by the turbines in the nick of time. But by the times they get the engines going again Loki has escaped, the Hulk is out and missing, Thor has been thrown from the ship in Loki’s prison. Natasha has Hawkeye down and breaks his mind control so he’s not working for Loki anymore and Agent Coulson is dead.

It’s just Steve and Tony sitting at the conference table when Fury comes in and tells them about the Avengers initiative. A group of extraordinary people who come together to fight the battles that no one else can. He tells them Coulson believed in them, and then throws his Captain America cards on the table, stained in his blood. Tony gets up and leaves, visibly distraught and Steve goes after him. He asks if Tony knew him well, and they bicker again Tony telling him that he’s not a soldier. But their bickering leads to them figuring out where Loki is and they set off for Stark Tower. Steve grabs Natasha and Clint and they head towards Manhattan.

By the time they get there Loki has used the Tesseract to open a portal to the other end of space and Tony is already fighting his army of Chutari.

Steve, Natasha, and Clint immediately join the fight, taking on the aliens on the ground while iron man serves as air support. Steve showcases his leadership skills and his mind for tactics instructing the local police on how to respond to what’s going on.

Eventually Thor and Bruce show up and the group comes together as a team working seamlessly to take out the Chutari. The only problem is that if the portal is still open they can’t stop more from coming in. Steve helps Natasha get a lift from one of the aliens and she heads up to see if she can close it. Meanwhile the world security council has ignored Fury and launched a nuclear missile towards NY. Fury tells Tony and Tony decides to use himself to reroute it into the open portal. Natasha tells them she can close it but Tony says to wait that he needs to get the nuke in first. Steve tells him that’s a one way trip and Tony confirms but it’s the only chance they have., making Steve realize his opinion of him might not have been entirely correct.

Tony disappears through and Steve waits as long as he can before making the call to close the portal. Luckily Tony falls back through before it fully shuts. The nuke cases the rest of the alien army to die and the team realize that they actually won.

The team captures Loki who surrenders realizing he is beat and then has a victory meal of Shwarma. Sometime later the team escorts Thor and Loki to centers park where Thor is taking Loki and the Tesseract back to Asgard.

After this the team goes their separate ways, Steve riding off on his motorcycle. Eventually he is contacted and employed by Fury to come work for shield to continue protecting the world from dangers. He moves to Washington DC and he’s trained in modern combat and stealth operations working closely with Black Widow and Brock Rumlow on strike teams taking out hostile factions.

He also contacts Peggy Carter, who is in a nursing home suffering from dementia. Despite this he goes to visit her often, still getting advice from her all these years later.

During his time in DC he frequently comes into contact with Sam Wilson while both are out running in the morning. Eventually they strike up a conversation, Sam relating to what Steve has been through coming home from war as Sam is also a veteran. Sam tells him he runs a group down at the VA and asks Steve to stop by, he also gives Steve some recommendations for catching up on the decades he missed. They are interrupted from their conversation by Natasha coming to pick Steve up for a mission, Steve promises to drop by the VA when he has a chance.

The strike team is on their way to liberate shield hostages taken by Georges Batroc when he hijacked the Shield vessel the LeMurian Star. Steve prepares to get in the ship first to give them an advantage and Natasha tries to talk him into letting her set him up on a date, something that seems to be a running joke with them. Steve then jumps off the jet without a parachute, landing in the ocean and climbing aboard the ship. The strike team easily takes the ship back, Steve fighting Batroc. He spots Natasha not where she’s supposed to be but instead getting the data off the ship computers before wiping them. She tells Steve that she had another mission from Fury and it was to get their intel. Steve is angry and frustrated telling her he can’t trust her if she doesn’t give him this information and he frustrated with Fury for keeping the intel from him and for also always having to go in to clean up his messes.

Once back in DC he confront Fury about it and Fury takes him down to see what Shield has been working on, Project Insight, three Helicarriers that would link up with satellites to take out threats before they even happened. Steve protests this telling him that’s not freedom that’s fear and he didn’t fight so that the world could be entrapped in fear. Fury tells him he needs to get with the times but Steve is not convinced and he leaves.

Feeling lost Steve goes to the Smithsonian where there is a Captain America exhibit. He wanders through it, reliving what happened back then, seeing a display for Bucky, it noting that he was Steve’s best friend and the only Commando to lose his life in the fight against Hydra. He also watches a video of a younger Peggy Carter who talks about how even after he was gone Steve was always changing her life telling the interviewer that Steve saved a man that would one day become her husband.

He leaves and goes to visit Peggy, asking for advice telling her he only joined Shield because she helped found it and that he only ever wanted to do good in the world. Peggy basically tells him to stop being so dramatic, that he already saved the world and he can rest. Before her demntia shows it’s head and she forgets that he’s been back. It’s heartbreaking.

He heads over to the VA, listening in on Sam’s group of veterans who have PTSD. Sam meets up with them after and they chat, Sam asks him what he wants to do with his life if he quit shield. And Steve tells him he has no idea. He doesn’t know what he would do if he wasn’t Captain America.

After leaving Sam he heads back home, getting in late and running into his neighbor in the hall, they have a brief conversation in which he tries to ask her out and she declines but tells him he left his radio on, he knows he didn’t which makes him suspicious and he sneaks in his own window only to find Fury in his living room.

Fury warns him that Shield has been compromised before he is shot through the walls by an unknown shooter. Fury hands Steve a usb drive and tells him to trust no one before Steve’s neighbor breaks in tell him that she’s Shield Agent 13 and she calls the paramedics. Steve then takes off in pursuit of the shooter, chasing them over roof tops until he throws his shield and the shooter catches it with his metal arm. There’s a mask on his face so Steve doesn’t get a good look at him before he disappears.

Fury dies, as Steve, Natasha and Maria Hill look on. Natasha questioned Steve about the shooter, and she knew who he was, the Winter Solider, mostly a myth but she had encountered him before. She asks why Fury was in his apartment and Steve feigns ignorance (badly). Rumlow tells Steve he’s wanted back at Shield to go over what happened and Steve leaves, but not before hiding the usb drive.

Steve meets with Alexander Pierce, head of Shield. Pierce tells Steve that he and Fury were friends, going on about why he took a seat on the World Security Council and how they had worked together. He tells Steve that Fury was the one who hired Batroc to hijack the Lemurian Star and says he was trying to cover something up. Steve tells Pierce that he doesn’t know why Fury was at his apartment and that Fury told him not to trust anyone before he died. Pierce tells Steve that he will find out what happened to his friend and he will get rid of anyone that gets in his way, a thinly veiled threat.

Steve leaves his office and takes the elevator down to leave Shield only to be slowly joined by most of the Strike Team. Steve realizes that its an ambush and asks if anyone would like to get out before taking down all of them. He escapes Shield, managing to get his motorcycle before heading back to the hospital needing to get the usb drive now that he was a wanted man.

Natasha is there, having taken the drive from where Steve hid it and she demands to know what’s going on. They go undercover, heading to the mall to use the apple store computers to try and figure out what’s on the usb drive. They are directed to Camp Lehigh in NJ, where Steve trained and the two escape the mall despite the Strike team being on their tails.

They steals a car, Natasha asking where he learned to do that and he tells her World War 2. The two talk, Natasha revealing a bit of herself to Steve. He tells her he’s not sure who she is, and she asks who he wants her to be, he says a friend. She tells him he’s in the wrong business to make friends.

They arrive at Camp Lehigh, they can’t find anything but Steve spots an building that’s in the wrong place and they break in only to find what looks like the original Shield Headquarters, Peggy and Howard’s pictures on the wall. They walk through old computer banks until they find a modern usb port sitting out and they put the stick in.

They are encountered by Armin Zola, or what’s left of him, he stored his memory in the computer banks before he died. He reveals that Shield has been infiltrated by Hydra since its inception and that it goes all that way to the top, Pierce. That hydra has been the cause behind assassinations, and political moves for decades and that they were slowly scaring the world into giving up their freedoms. He reveals that Howard and Maria Stark were killed by Shield and the Winter Soldier. He tells them that he has been developing an algorithm for Hydra and Project Insight claiming that Insight was Hydra’s goal. A world police force.

Before they could get anymore information out of him, Pierce sent a missile right for their location and Steve has just enough time to get both Natasha and he under cover before it blows. He gets them out and they head back to DC to the only person Steve knows he can trust. Sam Wilson.

They need to figure out what exactly Project Insight’s goal is and how to stop it.

With Sam joining the fight with his exo jet back wings (hello Falcon), the three kidnap Jasper Sitwell to get information out of him. He tells them that insight is meant to target anyone that’s a threat to Hydra. That the algorithm takes everything into account about every one in the world, test scores, internet searches etc, to analyze threats to them and that once the helicarriers are launched they will use the satellites to take all those people out at once.

They take Sitwell with them to figure out who they can go to with this information but are attacked by The Winter Solider who kills Sitwell. They have an altercation, Steve, Sam, and Natasha versus the Winter Solider the (now Hydra) Strike team. During the fight Steve knocks off the Winter Soldier’s mask to reveal that its Bucky Barnes, Steve’s best friend. Steve is so shocked that he is able to be overwhelmed and the three are arrested by Shield.

While being taken in one of their guards shoots the rest of the guards in the truck and reveals themselves to be Maria Hill who has Fury (whose not dead) at a secure location which she takes them to.

They explain that project insight is going to launch in sixteen hours and they have the key to taking them out. By getting into each of them and switching the navigation chip the ships will target each other instead of millions of innocent people. The plan makes sense but Steve has one more condition. Taking down Shield. No one knew how far the corruption went up or who was Hydra. The only way to clear it out was burn it to the ground. Fury was reluctant to agree but when Hill and Natasha backed Steve up he gave in and they decided to move forward.

Sam confronts Steve about Bucky telling him that he would be there waiting for Steve. Steve is confident that he can save Bucky and Sam tells him that he might not have a choice. But Steve is stubborn. He knows his mission but he will also save his best friend, when he had nothing, he always had Bucky. He couldn’t save him from falling from the train but he could save him now.

Steve, Sam, and Maria infiltrate the Triskelion, taking over the control center. Hill is staying there to set up operations but Steve and Sam are to get to the ships to switch out the chips. Before that though Steve makes a speech over the coms to everyone at shield. He tells them that they have been infiltrated by Hydra and that Alexander Pierce is their leader. He tells them that Project Insight will kill millions and he asks those loyal to shield to fight back, and stop them.

I know I'm asking a lot. But the price of freedom is high. It always has been. And it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not.

Steve and Sam set out, battling Hydra but both being able to insert their chips into the first two Helicarriers. They both head to the third but are attacked by the Winter Solider who rips Sam’s wings off and tosses him off the ship, though he has a parachute and manages to land in the Triskelion. It was up to Steve now, when he entered the Helicarrier he was met again by the Winter Solider. He tried to reason with Barnes, telling him millions would die but Barnes had had his mind wiped again and any recognition he had of Steve was gone. Steve mentally steeled himself to fight his friend, because he knew his mission, not matter the cost he needed to get the chip in. The men fight, both taking blows and Steve manages to get the chip in, but not before being shot multiple times by Bucky. He tells Maria to launch, even though he’s still on board, knowing he was too injured to get off in time.

The helicarriers fire on each other and the explosions make a beam fall on Bucky, Steve gathers his strength and helps him lift it off only for Bucky to turn on him and start beating him. Steve refuses to fight back because he will not fight his friend. He kept insisting that Bucky knew him, telling him his real name, and dropping his shield. Bucky refused to listen, confused he started beating him harder. He tells Steve that he is his mission, and Steve tells him to end it, because he’s with him “till the end of the line”. Its this that finally gets through to him and he stops, only for Steve to fall from the helicarrier and crash into the ocean unconscious.

Bucky goes in after him, fishing him out and leaving him on the river bank before leaving.

Steve wakes up in a hospital with Sam by his side, who fills him in on what he missed. Pierce was dead, Shield was gone and there was a lot of fallout from that.

Steve, Sam, and Natasha meet up with Fury at a cemetery, Nick Fury is legally dead and he plans to lay low for a while, but not before giving Steve the file on the Winter Solider, as Steve’s next mission is to find his friend. He tells Sam he doesn’t have to help, but Sam is firmly on his side and the two set out to find Bucky.

While he continued to search for Bucky, the threat of Hydra was still out there, picket groups were still operating and it was discovered that Loki’s scepter from the Battle of New York that Shield had confiscated was now in the hands of Hydra. The Avengers reassembled taking on Hydra and trying to root out the scepter. The team was reassembled for what can be assumed a few years before rooting out the scepter and Baron Wolfgang von Strucker who had been using it for illegal human experimentation. The team tracks him to Sokovia where they manage to infiltrate the base, capture him, and get the scepter. But not before they are introduced to two enhanced humans that Strucker was experimenting on, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. When Tony finds the scepter, Wanda uses her magic on him to show him his greatest fear- that they are not prepared for the fight that will eventually come from Space and that everyone he loves is dead- with Steve staying alive just long enough to tell him he could have stopped this. This one thing causes the next set of events.

They get back to Avengers tower and Maria briefs Steve on the twins, telling him that Pietro has super speed and Wanda can uses telekinesis and has some power over the mind. She says its crazy that they volunteered for the experiments and Steve says yeah, “What kind of monster would let a German Scientist experiment on them to protect their country?” When Maria says its not the same thing they aren’t at war, Steve says to them they are.

With the scepter secure the team heads back to Avengers Tower in NYC. Thor is staying on earth for a few days before he brings the scepter home and he allows Tony and Bruce to study it. What they find is something they don’t understand, but try to. It’s the Mind Stone (which they don’t know) and because of how it works Tony thinks that it can be enough to help with an Artificial Intelligence project they had been working on. A peace keeping force of robots called Ultron. They work on it for days with all of their attempts failing before shutting it down to join a party that was being thrown in the tower the night before the scepter was supposed to go back to Asgard- unbeknownst to them Ultron worked and woke up, hijacking the iron legion.

Once the party died down the team, plus Rhodey, Helen Cho and Maria, were hanging out, joking around, trying to lift Thor’s Hammer before they are interrupted by Ultron. He reveals that his mission is “Peace in our Time” and that they only way to achieve that is to kill the Avengers and all of humanity. He uses the iron legion to attack the Avengers and steals the scepter. They manage to take Ultron out but he had already escaped through the Internet.

They regroup in the lab to find that Ultron has erased all their data banks; everything they had is gone, including JARVIS. Tony defends his actions, saying that they can’t do it alone, can’t save the world alone. Steve tells Tony his actions are just like Shield’s when Tony tells them that a war is coming, that he saw what was out there when he traveled through the portal and they aren’t prepared. Steve says they would fight that battle together, and Tony says they will lose, and Steve says we’ll do that together too.

Maria briefs Steve on Ultron’s whereabouts, Maria tells him that Ultron’s attempts to launch nuclear missles is being thwarted by some mysterious ally, and that survivors of Ultron’s attacks her talking about suffering from visions and fighting something too fast to see realizing that the Maximoff twins had allied with Ultron. Ultron kills Baron Strucker to send a message to the Avengers, they eventually realize that he’s after vibranium and that he is headed to Ulysses Klaue, a smuggler in Johannesburg. The team heads there to try and head Ultron off but he’s already there. They fight Ultron and the twins, Wanda uses her powers on Thor, Natasha and Steve effectively taking them out, before using it on Bruce to bring the Hulk out in an angry rampage through the city.

Wanda gives Steve a vision, he sees himself at a celebration in the 40s at the end of world war 2, the life he could have had if he hadn’t been frozen and now trapped in this new world that he had never fully adjusted to, a world that didn’t feel like home. Peggy approaches him in the vision and tells him that he can stop fighting now and that they can go home, before everyone vanishes and he is left in an empty room, showing his isolation and how alone he still felt in this world.

With the team out of commission and a nice portion of Johannesburg destrpyed the team needs to lay low, Clint takes them to his safe house, his home. And introduces them to his wife and kids that none of them (save Natasha) knew anything about. Laura Barton doesn’t even blink as she takes them all in and puts them up for the night.

Thor leaves, telling Steve he needs to figure out what he saw inside his vision, Steve walks him out and then hesitates from going inside, into a house with a family, a thing he realizes he can never have. He later goes outside with Tony to chop wood, and they discuss how Wanda was able to pull the team apart with her visions and Tony comments that Steve seems unaffected, if he only knew. They start arguing about Tony and Bruce experimenting with the scepter to create Ultron. Tony defends his actions, saying that Ultron was supposed to be a peace keeping force, that the point of fighting was to end the fight and not have to fight so they could go home. Upoon hearing the word home Steve gets so angry he rips the log in half with his bare hands (and every one in the world was suddenly irrevocably attracted to Steve Rogers).

“Isn't that the mission? Isn't that the why we fight, so we can end the fight, so we get to go home?"
"Every time someone tries to end a war before it starts, innocent people, die. Every time."

They are interrupted by Laura Barton who asks to borrow Tony.

Nick Fury shows up, who came to help motivate the team to get back into the fight. Fury says Ultron pulled the team apart to give himself time, and that the vibranium he stole was unlikely being used for one thing. He also tells them that the nuclear codes are still being protected by an unknown enemy of Ultron. Bruce works out that Ultron wants to evolve and asks if anyone has been in touch with Helen Cho. They realize that Ultron wants to make a body for himself using Cho’s cradle to make synthetic tissue.

The team figures out a plan, Tony will go to the Nexus to see whose stoping Ultron from the nuclear codes, and he and Bruce will meet Steve, Clint, and Natasha back in NY. Meanwhile Steve, Clint, and Natasha are heading to Seoul to find Helen and stop Ultron.

Steve makes it to Helen’s lab only to find it trashed and Helen injured. She tells Steve that the body inside the cradle has a gem on him that will create such a powerful explosion if destroyed that it would level the city. She tells him to bring the cradle to Tony.

Steve goes to seek out Ultron on foot, while Clint and Natasha are in the quninjet. Clint finds the truck and Steve engages Ultron keeping him busy until Natasha could get the cradle to Clint. Steve and Ultron are knocked onto a train and Steve is assisted by the Maximoff twins who have turned on Ultron after realizing his plan wasn’t just to wipe out the Avengers but all of humanity.

The twins help Steve stop a speeding train, and Clint takes the cradle back to Tony, but Natasha has been taken by Ultron. Steve talks to the twins still wary of their origins with Strucker and siding with Ultron but he realizes that they want to thwart Ultron just as much as he does. Wanda expresses concern that Tony should not have the body, that like Ultron, Tony wants to save the world that he can’t see that he’s destroying it.

Steve and the twins arrive back at the Tower in time to stop Tony and Bruce from creating another AI from the body in the cradle. They try and stop them and a fight ensues before Thor comes back, knowing that the mind stone is in the cradle and that Tony is right. He powers the cradle with his lightening and the process is complete. The AI- JARVIS has been transfer to the mind stone and thus the body that Ultron had wanted.

Vision burst out of the cradle and initially attacked the team before stopping and Thor prevented Steve from engaging him further. Vision then apologizes, and while the team isn’t sure what to make of him he tells them that he is not Jarvis and he is not Ultron, he is Vision. Thor tells them that the gem in vision is one of six infinity stones and they will need it to defeat Ultron. The team is still skeptical even when Vision says he will help. Its not until Vision picks up Thor’s hammer that they are convinced.

The team, now with the twins and Vision make a plan to battle Ultron. Steve tells them that they needs to evacuate the city of Sokovia of civilians, find Natasha, find out what the vibranium was being used for and then engage Ultron. They are trying to evacuate as many people as possible when Ultron sends his sentries to attack the civilians. Steve works with the rest of the team to take them down. Its revealed that Ultron has used the vibranium for a device that separated the city from the ground and rose it into the air. Ultron’s plan was to let it get high enough before dropping it down to destroy the earth. Steve ordered Tony to work on bringing down the city without blowing up the world. Tony tells them that he can blow the city while it was in the air, killing everyone in it but saving the planet. Steve says he won’t leave the innocent here to die and Natasha asks who said anything about leaving, prepared to go out fighting.

Luckily that’s when Nick Fury shows up in a Helicarrier prepared to evacuate the rest of the people on the floating piece of land. The Avengers work to protect the people and get everyone off the island before they destroyed the city. Ultron seeing them succeeding tried to drop the city early but the Avengers assembled around the drill in the church protecting it from him. Ultron sent his army of sentries after them but they defeated them, together. Once they battle was over Steve ordered everyone to get to the evacuation boats while Tony and Thor blew up the city. The Avengers win the day, but at what cost? Pietro is killed by Ultron, and hundreds are dead or injured or displaced their homes destroyed.

Vision ultimately kills Ultron and the world is safe from his reign of destruction.

With the tower a mess Tony uses an old Stark Industries warehouse in upstate NY to make a new Avengers facility, for a new team. Thor is leaving, Clint has retired and gone to live with his family, Bruce is gone, and Tony is set on retiring after what was essentially his fault. Steve says good bye to Tony and Thor, telling Tony he will miss him, before going back in to find Natasha, they have a new team of Avengers to train.

The new team was used to go out on missions to stop the likes of Hydra or other threats to the world. However, there were people out there who didn’t welcome them- who didn’t want them in their countries. There was also destruction where the Avengers went and some people couldn’t separate that from the good they were doing. The world had had enough.

During a mission in Lagos, trying to stop Brock Rumlow from getting his hands on a bio weapon, Wanda accidently blows up a building killings innocent people. That’s the last straw.

Enter the Sokovia Accords. The countries of the UN came together to try and regulate what the Avengers could do. It wa an agreement that the Avengers would be governed by a panel of people from the UN which sent them out to face threats. Steve didn’t agree with this, not liking the idea of having reigns put on him. He questions what they would do if they were sent somewhere they didn’t agree with, or if they weren’t allowed to go where they were needed? He stubbornly thought that the safest hands were still their own. The team was divided on the issue. Tony, Natasha, Rhodey and Vision were for the Accords, and Steve, Sam, and Wanda were not. However if they did not sign the Accords it was basically a resignation, if they acted outside the government then it was outside the law and they would be sent to prison.

During the meeting Steve gets a text informing him the Peggy Carter has passed away. Without a decision made about what he wanted to do with the Accords Steve travels to London for Peggy’s funeral. Former Shield Agent 13 is there and its revealed to Steve that she is Peggy’s niece Sharon Carter. She gives a Eulogy that reinforces Steve’s belief that he shouldn’t sign. After the funeral, Natasha arrives to console Steve and tells him she’s on her way to Vienna to sign, she urges him to rethink his decision but he won’t budge.

Steve meets up with Sharon at their hotel and they go back to Steve’s room, talking about her work at the CIA and Peggy, when Sam interrupts them to turn on the news as there has been a bombing at the Accords signing in Vienna and its being blamed on The Winter Soldier.

He calls Natasha to make sure she’s okay, and she urges him not to get involved or to go after Bucky, though he doesn’t listen. Sharon tells Steve and Sam where to find Bucky in Romania and that the joint counter terrorist center had issued a kill order on him. They travel to Romania and Steve enter Bucky’s apartment confronting him. He asks if Bucky remembers him and Bucky says he does, has since DC. Steve tells him he’s being blamed for a bombing in Vienna and Bucky says he didn’t do it (and he didn’t). The taskforce sent to kill Bucky arrives and Bucky and Steve fight their way out of the apartment. Bucky is then attacked by Black Panther (T’challa Prince of Wakanda whose father was killed in the bombing- he blames Bucky). The three fight through the streets of Romania causing destruction before they are stopped and arrested by the taskforce and Rhodey who tells Steve he is now a criminal.

They are all taken to Berlin and Bucky is put in a holding cell. Steve and Sam are offered exoneration if they sign the Accords and they both still refuse. Tony comes offering an olive branch to Steve, and the two talk, Tony asking him again to please sign. He almost does but then he stays his course. The two fight over the house arrest Tony has Vision keeping Wanda under, Tony tells him its to keep her safe. Steve still refuses to sign.

Steve, Sam, and Sharon watch the interview of Bucky by a psycho-analyst. Steve thinks that someone framed Bucky to draw him out and get to him, and he thinks it might be the doctor. Suddenly the power goes out in the facility and they can’t see whats going on in the cell. The doctor uses code words on Bucky that trigger his brainwashing and he releases Bucky to attack everyone in the facility.

Bucky fights his way through the headquarters, and Steve finally subdues him, getting him out and Sam and Steve take him to an undisclosed location. While waiting for him to regain consciousness they discuss what to do. They can’t call Tony because of the accords, or Natasha. Bucky wakes up back in his own mind and tells them that he’s not the only Winter Soldier and that the doctor is going after them. As far as Bucky knows they are in cryo in Siberia. They know they need to go after this doctor whose not a doctor and is named Hemlut Zemo, but if they do they will be fugitives. They pull a team together of the three of them, Clint, Wanda, and Ant-man to try and get to a quinjet in the Berlin Airport.

They are met with resistance in the form of their other teammates. Tony, Natasha, Rhodey, and Vision, also Black Panther and Spider-man. The two groups fight, at first just trying to stop each other but not harm each other but then it escalates. Steve and Bucky make it to the hanger after Sam tells them to go and leave the others here to face the consequences. They are met by Black Panther and Natasha. Natasha knows Steve won’t stop and she doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt so she attacks Black Panther to let Steve and Bucky get away- making her a fugitive now too.

The rest of Steve’s team is arrested and put in a maximum-security facility called the Raft.

Steve and Bucky make it to Siberia and the Hydra facility once there Tony appears and tells them that he knows the doctor was a fake, the real doctor was found dead, and that Sam told him what was going on. He’s there to help stop the other Winter Soldiers and Steve is glad for his help. It seems like they are both on the same page again.

They enter the cryo chamber only to see that all the Winter Soldiers have been murdered and Zemo is there. He tells them that his family died in Sokovia, and all he’s wanted to was crush the Avengers, to bring them down from the inside. He then plays a video for them. Tony’s parents being murdered by the Winter Soldier. Tony watches as Bucky murders his mother and he loses it. Steve tries to reason with him and tell him that Bucky was brainwashed, but the grief is too close to the surface. Tony asks Steve if he knew, and Steve says he wasn’t sure, and Tony asks again and Steve admits that he did know and he never once in all the years between them tell Tony. Betrayed and angry Tony attacks Steve and then Bucky. The three have an all out brawl. Its bad and finally Steve is able to subdue Tony by slamming his shield into the suit’s arc reactor. As Steve is leaving with Bucky Tony screams that Steve doesn’t deserve the shield and what it represents and Steve drops it, knowing at the moment he doesn’t, before leaving Tony there in a dead suit.

Days later Steve breaks his teammates out of the Raft, Ant-man and Clint going back to their families under house arrest and Wanda Sam and Natasha going on the run. Steve sends Tony a letter and a burner phone; apologizing and telling him that if Tony needs them that they will come.

Its revealed that Bucky is in Wakanda- since T’challa found out he was not to blame for his father’s death he offers Bucky and Steve his assistance on getting Bucky’s conditioning out of his brain. Steve leaves Bucky in T’challa’s hands and heads out with Sam and Natasha taking up a like of vigilantism. Going where they are needed and avoiding those who want to arrest them.

Abilities/Special Powers:
Steve has been treated with super solider serum that both altered his body, putting him in peak physical condition, and also gave him enhanced abilities.

Enhanced strength. Steve is able to lift up a motorcycle with people sitting on it without breaking a sweat. If he runs too hard at a wall, he can break it apart. Even when severely injured, he's able to pull a large metal beam up off of Bucky.

Enhanced speed and stamina. Along with being able to run fast, he can also do it seemingly endlessly. His body doesn't tire out, though his heightened metabolism (4 times that of the average person) also means that he can't get drunk.

Enhanced durability. Steve can take a beating. This includes falling many stories and being able to stand up and keep running and also being shot multiple times yet still being capable of moving enough to finish his mission and then help Bucky afterward.

Enhanced healing. Steve is incapable of getting sick (as far as we are aware), and his injuries heal at a much faster rate as compared to a normal human. He is hospitalized at the end of Winter Soldier, having been shot multiple times and beaten pretty badly- what seems like only a few days later he's out and about again. It is also be assumed that the serum had something to do with him being preserved in the ice for all those years, whereas a normal human would have died.

Enhanced agility. Steve is able to jump insanely far distances and to impressive heights, far beyond what an Olympic athlete would even be able to accomplish.

Enhanced senses/ motor capabilities/ brain function, can hold his breath longer than an average human, enhanced reflexes, exceptional hand eye coordination, eidetic memory- he sees the map of Hydra bases once and he can recall their exact positions later going as far as drawing them out on a map.

All of this makes him a near-unbeatable in combat.

Third-Person Sample:
Waking up in an unfamiliar place is nothing new, it’s happened before, and it’s never something Steve wants to experience again. But it seems like he doesn’t have a choice in the matter, because here he is, in a unfamiliar room. Not the room he went to sleep in in the safe house with Sam and Natasha, but a sparsely furnished one. In fact there’s just the bed he was now sitting up on.

A quick glance out the window confirmed what he already knew, he was no longer where he was a few hours ago, so that begged the question; where the hell was he? In a world where he was a wanted man he didn’t like the fact that he had no answers. It didn’t seem to be prison; there were no chains, no locks on the door. No one was coming in to tell him he had been asleep for seventy years, the only way he was going to get answers was to demand them.

So he made his way out into the hall, it was quiet, which was good. He knew others were here- knew from the small noises that were making their way to him, but no one was near. He had two goals, he needed to find out where he was, and he needed to find out where his team- his friends were. With that in mind he set out, peaking into doors, looking after anything or anyone who could answer that question.

First-Person Sample:

[ The camera turns on to show piercing blue eyes, blonde hair and a serious face, he may be familiar to some people, he may not be. He’s not concerned with that. He’s all business right now. ]

    This is Steve Rogers.

[ He’s done his homework, he’s read the pamphlet, he’s played with the device enough to gather what information he needs- and Natasha should be proud of his information gathering skills, he scopes out the mansion and the grounds and this seems like the easiest way to announce himself- considering who he saw was here. ]

I got here yesterday, I read your pamphlets. Is there anything else I should be aware of that wasn’t covered in those? Any information would be appreciated.

[ With a nod he turns off the device and waits. Who he needs will come to him and anything else he can glean from this place is good. ]
