[ Claire doesn't trust herself to speak. Her voice may break and the tears may come, and there's no time for that. She has to be strong for Brianna. ]

[ As soon as she says something has happened Steve is on high alert. With the sudden influx of people and the mansion not being a mansion for a week things had been weird and he’d already been on edge. ]

[ There's a pause before she responds. ]

I killed a man and left him tied to a chair in a room on the second floor. Number 782. I need you to see if he's still there.

[ Randall had picked a high number, further away from the rest of the residents. She'd known he would revive; it's why she tied him. But with the number of people that left, Christ let him have been one of them. ]

[ There’s also a pause on his end. ]

you....ok. I’ll go check. Is there anything else I should know? What am I walking into?

[ It says a lot about his friendship with Claire that he’s not asking questions yet. ]

He tried to kill Jamie. Christ, he nearly killed Bree.

[ That she's willing to tell Steve everything says a lot on her end as well. ]

I'll tell you, all of it. I just need to know he's gone and if he isn't, we need to find a way to keep him locked away.

[ Thats all she needs to say before he’s picking up his pace, heading towards the room on the second floor. He slows when he gets close enough, leaning against the wall next to the door before pushing it open, already on high alert as he turns to go through the door way.

[ Claire closes her eyes and lets out a shaky breath she didn't realize she was holding before texting him again. ]

Thank you, Steve.

[ She owes him an explanation now, but her room is no place for it, not at the moment. ]

I'll come by if you aren't busy otherwise.

Never too busy for you. I'll be up in my room whenever you're ready.

[ Which is where she will find him, when she comes knocking. ]

[ She tells Jamie first, where she's going, and when she gets to Steve's and he opens the door, she must look like a mess. Hair a wild nest of curls, eyes that show she hasn't slept, but there has been plenty of crying.

Still, she's so grateful and that's what shines through for now as she looks up at Steve. ]

Jamie wouldn't let me go alone to check, and we couldn't leave Brianna alone, so.

[ So, she'd needed Steve to do it. ]

[ Steve takes one look at Claire and immediately pulls her into the room and into a hug. She looks like she could use a strong hug right about now. ]

What happened?

[ She doesn't need to thank him, he would do anything for Claire and her family. ]

To tell you, would mean explaining things that are unpleasant, Steve.

[ Said after she lets herself sink into the hug a bit. She did need it; there are only so many tears she can cry with Jamie before she feels as though she needs to be strong in front of him, and especially for Brianna. ]

This man that arrived has done things that would normally be unmentionable.

One of the lightbulbs burned out in the bowling alley and I can't reach it. What kind of magical parallel reality can't make lightbulbs that last more than a few months? [Freya wakes up the next day, and tries to carry on as though nothing happened.

It's harder in some ways than others. It's not the first time she's died, and she doubts it will be the last, even if none of her previous deaths were in Wonderland, but there is something about this that still feels different. It takes her a day to pull herself together to normal operating procedures, and another day after that to actually check in on Steve.

Whether the ruse worked or not, she's concerned about her friend and she wants to know that he's ... dealing.]

[ When her text comes in Steve feels a pang of guilt. He hasn't had a chance to check in with anyone yet. Mostly because he's been spending his time with Juliet and focusing on her instead of dealing with everything himself.

Still, he knows he should have checked in and he's glad Freya took the initiative. ]

Been better....been worse. Are you okay?

About the same. If you're not too busy, I'm going for a drink if you'd like to join me.

[She doesn't blame him for not checking in. Freya's never really been one that's been too reliant on validation from other people, especially when there's a lot more going on.]

[ He heads out, it doesn’t take him long at all to take a seat at the bar to wait for Freya. ]

[ When Steve comes back from his morning run, he'll come into his room and find a very apt cake on the kitchen counter with a '101' candle on top. Next to it is a box with his name on it.

When he opens the box, he'll find his two gifts. The first one is something Juliet figures he can make pretty good use of, and the second gift, well... That's more of a gift for her to make use of.

His whole room is definitely also obnoxiously decorated in just about every 4th of July themed thing Juliet could think of, to a nearly obnoxious level. But who can blame her? She's celebrating her country and her perfect boyfriend. Of course, she has to go all out.

She'll wait for him to open his present before she sneaks up on him and throws her arms around his waist. ]

[ He’s not sure why he wasn’t expecting anything today, he knows his girlfriend better than that, but when he walks back into his room after his run he stops short and looks around. He’s reminded of last year when Tony had snuck in a decorated. There’s a small pang of sadness there- he misses his friend, even if they hadn’t been on good terms back home. He shakes it off though, Juliet did this for him and he doesn’t want to be anything but happy right now.

He opens both gifts and smiles, laughing when he feels her arms slide around his waist. He leans back into her. ]

Well. Someone certainly loves her country.

[ She presses a gentle kiss on his back before she moves around to stand in front of him. Her heart swells and her stomach flip-flops every time she looks at him, so there is no way she wasn't going to miss celebrating the birth of someone who means the world to her. ]

Since it's your big day, you get to decide everything we do today. But... [ She smiles, tugging gently at his sweaty t-shirt. ] I recommend starting it with a shower.
